Do not want! (Fruits Basket Live Action Movie)

F*** no!

Why. Just why. Of all the shojo series they could have chosen to translate into an American film, why Fruits Basket, and the horrible CGI chibis were bound to see.

But yeah, what does the term “more realistic” even mean? It’s a series whose main premise involves teenagers turning into rats and cats when they’re hugged by a member of the opposite sex.

I think this is a false rumor, and really don’t think it will end up getting made even if it were real, given how many purposed movies I’ve heard about that have fallen through.

Anyways, I’m ‘looking forward’ to seeing to whatever teenage actors they bring up to play the characters. Justin Bieder for Momji perchaps? Sigh.

Sorry for the rant, but this is my favorite manga, so I really don’t want to see the generteed horror that it’s sure too be. Even, seeing posters and shit, is bound to enrage me.

So let me say it again: F*** no.

D: Oh please, no! Not Fruits Basket!

    • warriorhope says:

Fruits Basket is pretty much the worse shojo series they could have picked too, for adapting without looking totally cheesy.

  2. Xiao says:

    Ewwww.

I’m not even okay with a lot Japanese live-action adaptations but this?

    *forgetting nao* D/

    • warriorhope says:

yeah, I can’t even see Fruits Basket working as a cracky Japanese live action series (ala the Sailor Moon one) much less as an American movie.

      I’ll try too as well.

  3. kelakagandy says:

I really hope this never happens. Even my non-anime fangirl roommate who only knows of Furuba went “A Hollywood movie? As in American? That’s weird” when I told her about it. :/

    • warriorhope says:

It’s the sort of project that’s doomed to failure. Fans of the orignal series would hate it, because it’s bound to suck (judgeing by things like that dragonball movie) and no one else would want to see it because it looks werid/’is aimed at girls’. Definitely a bad marketing decision.

  4. Aorii says:

    Wait wha—
Not even to mention the fact there is absolutely no chance they can do the plot/chars any kind of justice within just a movie’s timeframe; premise is wayyyy too complex for that.

  5. FuyuMaiden says:

Knowing Hollywood it will be reduced to a storyline about the a love triangle. Which really makes me think Twilight has something to do with this possibility being brought up. Japan has other less loved stories that actually put a spotlight on love triangles, you know? Like 5 million of them.

…Safe to say, I will shoot myself if Kyo gets turned into a werecat.

    • warriorhope says:

Oh God I would seriously hate that. I mean, I know tons of people bitch about Yuki thinking about Tohru as a mother surrogate rather than a love interest, ibut to me it made sense, given her personality and other people’s reactions to it. And Kyo and Yuki’s rivalty is about more than love intrests. It’s about their own insercurties and issues given their childhoods. (Kyo/Tohru is also OTP, but that’s besides the point).

      lolness.

  6. Please no, Hollywood.
You already showed us your skills with DragonBall
    Don’t take another fan loved show and destroy it ;____;
I mean, look at what they almost did to Sailor Moon (my friend showed me this youtube clip. Apparently Sailor Moon was going to be made into an American Live Action show – which thankfully never went through. I mean, they crippled Sailor Mercury – she’s in a wheelchair! o__O;):

I wonder if they’re going to Twilight-fy it. Like, make Kyo walk around most of the time without his shirt on or have a glitter shower follow Yuki around
    *brain melt at this image*

    • warriorhope says:

Oh yeah Saban. That was horrible (but fun to make fun of much like the SM live action Japan series).

To be fair, Kyo wlaks around shirtless a lot anyways (and the only good part of the twilight series is the shirtless anyways), and Yuki spakles alot in the manga, but given the medium it works. Like it wouldn’t in live action.

  7. Rin says:

How the hell would they do that?

  8. lostty says:

We have the same favourite manga :)
But ya, I totally see how this would spell out disaster. The manga sells well in North America, but I don’t see it selling well as a film. I can’t see it really happening either. Looking at the little things, I can’t help but mention, that a movie length couldn’t do this series anything close to justice (a given I know) because Fruits Basket has the best character development I’ve ever seen and you need those 23 volumes to achieve that, which automatically makes the film a fail idea.

  9. Titania says:

I will only support this if they keep the Japanese names in (“If 4kids got Fruits Basket…” Ew. What, would Tohru be, like, Victoria, and Kyo would be Kevin and Yuki would be…*blarf*) and they cast me. Somehow, for some role in the Sohma family. If I were on that set, gosh dang it I’d MAKE them do it justice. Even if it meant throwing a diva tantrum for Twilightifying it and putting them all over the magazines as the evildoers who killed Furuba.

Like Aorii said, though, there’s no way they’re gonna be able to make it seem like the Furuba we know and love with a time limit. And if they’re taking out the tent bit like the article said, doesn’t that mean a lot of the plot goes missing, too?
