Kare wa Tamodachi is definatly different. Betsufire stuff is kind of meh, not really being too smutty (ie. too rape ficcy), but tends more towards the type of soap opreay series. So needless to say the character run around acting stupid /bitchy somethings, and sensible at other times. But never at the same time.

It’s also paper month (for school) and NaNoWrMo, so I’ll attempt to be busy with those things, so there might be more belated reviews again.

 Why. Just why. Of all the shojo series they could have chosen to translate into an American film, why Fruits Basket, and the horrible CGI chibis were bound to see.

But yeah, what does the term “more realistic” even mean? It’s a series whose main premise involves teenagers turning into rats and cats when they’re hugged by a member of the opposite sex.

I think this is a false rumor, and really don’t think it will end up getting made even if it were real, given how many purposed movies I’ve heard about that have fallen through.

 Anyways, I’m ‘looking forward’ to seeing to whatever teenage actors they bring up to play the characters. Justin Bieder for Momji perchaps? Sigh.

Sorry for the rant, but this is my favorite manga, so I really don’t want to see the generteed horror that it’s sure too be. Even, seeing posters and shit, is bound to enrage me.

So let me say it again: F*** no.

Maybe she's born with it, maybe it's...

This actually doesn’t suck. The del ray translation and/or editing sucks a bit (using ms., and -chan as honorics? Pick one style and stick with it), but it’s over all decent.

The series actually seems to be based on a novel/novels from what I’ve heard, by Miyoko Ikeda. Michiyo Kikuta seems to have been in charge of the adaptation as well as the art, though she’s only credited for one by Del Ray.

Luna, the heroine, starts the series off by staring up at the sky because the clouds look like a plate of Yakisoba. Needless to say she’s prety typical for a Maho shojo heroine. While she’s drooling over noodles she gets hit in the head with a random ball. After, which she is scolded by her friend Sae, who might be one of the best reserve traps ever, despite never actually pretending to be a guy. Luna thinks sadly back to the days when she was best buddies with Sae along with her other orphan peeps Mana-chan and Mit-chan (aw. I kind of hope they get adopted by a supervillian though). So, her other orhphan friends ask Luna if she dislikes Sae when she acts like a bitch, to which Luna responds that she loves Sae, surprising quite a few people.^^;

Luna remembers how she promised their preivous teacher, Towako (who has Shizuma from Strawberry Panic’s hairstyle), that she’d protect Sae from. Which launches into a section where she talks about hoew much she loved Towako, who told her that she had a great power inside her that she must be careful not to crush her. Luna also mentions that she disappeared two years ago. Hmm…Okay poll time:

Luna thinks about how she was abantoned on the school orhangange place when she was a baby, along with a ring pendant  and a small wooden box. She preys that she;ll be able to see them again and her favorite teacher, as well as be best buds with Sae again.

Meanwhile, a boy and a girl lok over a hill and say that they can ‘smell her’ in this town. Okay.

The next day, people are talking about a huge nearby earthquake, while Luna cleans the library. Eventually the people who were cleaning  the library with her leave and she continues to do it by herself. Sae comes along and sees her cleaning up by herself and freaks out. She hates seeing people take advantage of Luna. Yet she doesn’t actually offer to help out. While, she’s crying the two werid people from earlier pay her a visit. First the guy comes in through the window of the classroom in great Nakayoshi tradtion. After he tries to get her to admit that she’s the legendary girl, (just by asking her the question over and over again), his female partner jumps in, and sees if she has the ring-pendent. Luna tries to get her away from her, but it doesn’t work. After, she sees the pendent, she hugs Luna, and asks to see her face while crying. Luna, freaks out and runs away. Neither, of them are quite the best people to gently break the news that someone is a princess of a magical land.

When, she’s far enough away from the crazies, she wonders if they know who her parents are. But then she reflects that ther is no possible way that she could be a princess from another land.

Mokke, the guy,  catches up to her. Since, she thinks that he and his partner, is after the pendent she keeps running away. Eventually he catches up to her and tells he that they just want to protect her, as she lands on top ofhim. She comments in her head that he’s not such a bad person after all…He tells her that she looks a little like someone else, when his owwn partner, Suneri shows up. She says they should leave her alone for the rest of the day and carries him away. When he protests, she holds up the pendent that she took from Luna, and says they’re going to test her a bit. They’re suppose to be the good guys right?

Luna goes off to find it, that night, and is joined by Sae. Sunrei explains to Mokke that if the penent communicates with Luna they’ll know if she’s the legndary girl or not.. And then they turn into an owl and a cat. Well, an owl is at least a bit orignal. Meanwile Sae explains that she’s benn so tough on Luna, because she wanted to protect her and no matter what anyone ele says, she knows that Luna is kind, not a sucker. So the pendent flashes, Sae picks it up and is attacked by a werid weasal youkai or something.  Kamachi, the deamon, says that its been looking for Luna. Its claws turn into blades and it tries to slice Luna up, cutting her leg. Sunrei and Mokke protect her and get Kamachi away from her..

She dreams about talking to another verison of her sel, andwakes up in a hospital. Apperatly, her injuries healed up in the intervening time between when it happened and when the doctor saw her. The nurse tells her that Sae is missing and she has a massive gulit trip over it. 

Later when she’s having bad dreams, Mokke and Sunrei show up. They transform into their animal forms. Thris freaks Luna out again and so they compromise by going into plushie mode ala Full Moon wo Sagashite. They tell her she’s the princess of their world, and not human herself, pointing to the car on the back of her neck as prove. This is all too much for Luna, who asks them to leave, because she’s worried about Sae and not to come back as it’s none of her business. They proceed to be massive pricks about it, telling her that her friend might be dead and only the legendary girl can save her, and call her ungrateful and that they shouldn’t have saved her back then. Okay, rant time. I really, really hate how in Maho shojo representatives from the magicall world, expect their long lost princess, or reincarenated warrior or whatever to just step into line and save the worlds. A) most people would be in a state of shock anyways, especially if they were attacked by  a  ferrat with blades for claws and had their best friend taken away and B) most of the people they choose are kind of young. I mean, Luna is 9/10 years old. They would probably have a more difficult time coping anyways just because of their age. So going into their hospital room and being all “lol, you’re not human so you can do a bunch of wicked stuff” after just  being attacked is not the best idea. And get oftended because they get rightfully annoyed or frusrated is just stupid.

The nex t day, she gets out of hosspital and worries when she doesn’t see her friend Mit-chan worrying that Kamachi attacked her too. She manages to find her, but only just stops her from getting ran over by a car. Despite always tripping over her own feet when running. Suddenly, a guywho looks exactly like Yuka from Milcute shoows up. Seriously! He even has a dark dog theme too. Kind of wish she had switched it up a bit. Something about him apperantly makes Luna even blushier than she is when she’s with Tai.

So he knows her name and comments that her powers aren’t fully awakened. When she asks him how he knows it, he just cryripically says that he’s “the key” to her “destiny”. He tells her his name is Tai, before he mosies off.

Later that night, an eye opens up on the back of Luna’s neck. O_O Admittedly, creepy. Sunrei comes by with Mokke, and apolgizes for being a bitch. Luna is ready for their help and advice, and listens to the story about her parents. Her mother was the princess of the youkai world and was a Kitsune, and her dad was some random human who just happened to have spiritual powers or whatever, who her mom fell in love with. When, Luna was born her daddy noticed the eye in the back and sealed it away so she could be happy as a human or whaever. So her thiird eye opened because of the eartquake mentioned before which sank the shrine that sealed away the youkai world. Which was how, Kamachi, Sunrei and Mokke were able to get out.

Luna decides to fight Kamachi with the two of them, and gains maical items from her mom.. A ribbon and a metal. Sweet. She’s already got three possible toys if they ever make an anime adaptation.

They go and find Kamachi who wants “the everlasting jewel” from Luna so he can take over the world. He attacks Sunrei and Mokke. When, Luna finally meets upwith them and sees their bodies wirthing in pain, it awakens the magical girl instricnt in her and her hair color changes and her eyes turn red. Also, her hair is inspectably in a ponytail, but it looks badass so who cares.

Her instrincts are stronger in this form, allowing her to save Sae without much difficultly. However, Kamachi brings down a tornato upon her, sucking up Sae into the vortex. Luna’s rage stops the vortex, and before she knows it, she ends up toturing Kamachi. Hmm …well this is the first time in awhile that I’ve seen a magical girlw ith murderous intent this early on. That’s new. I’m not sure if I like it, but I will admit it’s pretty orignal. Mokke, stops her however and tells her that Sunrei  is healing Sae. She remembers what her teacher said about being kind and decides to forgive Kamachi. She opens the path so he can go home. A random gold bead falls out. Apperantly, Luna is the only one who can help Youkai return home, so that’s her current job in the series.

The volume, ends with Luna crying into Mokke’s arms about how she snapped and also killed something. I personally thought they should have questioned him about the whole “rule the world” thing., but whatever.

I’m still not really a fan of  Michiyo Kikuta’s art, but otherwise it’s pretty good aside from the things that usually annoy me about maho shojo as much as I love the genre (eg. moscots with no sense of sympathy, heroine is always  a princess of a magical world etc.), but I still think it does some interesting things too. It’s definitely my favorite Michiyo Kikuta maho shojo, though that might be because it’s based on someone else’s novel series.

Speaking of Michiyo Kikuta’s former maho shojo works, I read Milcute vs. Mamotte, and it wasn’t that bad. Yoku/Miu was geniuniely cute without  being sickenly sweet and wangsty like it was in the actual series. I don’t know much about Mamotte, so I can’t arrest to how well the characters where protrayed, but it seems fun. It reminds of a logt of silver age DC or Marvel books, where two superheroes would meet up and fight until some villain came along, and then they’d get together it kickass.

Kaito, the prince of the demon realm, escapes to Earth with his pet, Raven. His dad, furious, sends a clumsy trio of demons to retrieve him – and a mad love chase ensues.

I got interested in this because of  Slyphalchemist’s review of the first volume, otherwise I might have pasted on it just based on the cover. Which is a sin, becuase this series is awesomely ridculous. I don’t think I’ve laugh at manga so much since whenever Skip Beat was last funny (a few months ago), but besides the point. It explores the three bishie stooges  theme more clearly than the last series I thought had it. This series also confirms that I only like vampires if they’re skirt chasers that always fail. It’s also cool how  a guy is a rebellious princess  for once~ Taiki and Kaito’s bromance is also fun (even if they are on technical opposite sides), and of course Kaito/Levun/Taiki is OT3.

So there’s a flashback to when Azusa was younger, and got made fun of and ignored by people because his mother had an affair and got a divorce. Including his uncle and aunt whom he was living with. When he was in six grade or whatever his older cousin tried to force him to sleep with her, but then claimed that he tried to rape her when they were caught by her father. So yeah, you can see why he’s a bit of a psycho, still aiming his revenge plans at the wrong person  mind you, but revenge is never that logical.

Meanwhile, Hatsumi is doing what she does best-waffling about a decision. This time it’s whether it was a good idea or not for her to become Ryoki’s ’irlfriend in training’. Make a decision and stick with it. I don’t care if it’s a bad one or not, just don’t keep complaining, please.

She runs into Ryoki’s maid who gives her back her spoon and shit that she left at his apartment the night before. The maid mentions that Ryoki slept through the night and Hatsumi is a little jealous. For some reason. Anyways, she runs into Azusa who says that she, he, and Shinogu are going to have a little sit down with Hatsumi’s da, about everything.

By the time, they get there Shinogu is talking to his dad about Azusa. I notice he didn’t mention the whole attempted gang rape thing. so much about caring for his little adopted sister/crush. The dad says he came home to apologize to  Azusa, he does so, leading to Azusa exposting about his mother’s last days waiting for the guy she had an affair with to come see her. He leaves, and Shinogu comments that the apology wasn’t true, that he actually wasn’t the guy who did all that stuff.

Meanwhile, Hatsumi goes off to comfort Azusa because he looked like he was going to cry. Apparently she used to sent him letters all the time when he was at his uncle’s place, and that helped him get through all the crap or something. He tells her he wanted to hate her  since her father and the rest of her family had it so great, while he and his mother suffered so much. but he couldn’t hate her. So he still went ahead with his gang rape plans? He also says that seeing Hatsumi’s dad on his knees didn’t make him happy. Hatsumi tells him that it made no one happy.

Hatsumi struggles with what to do about her dad having affairs and ruining people’s lives especially when she sees him talking to her mom and Azusa’s dad at the same time. She doesn’t think she should tell her mom, because it would break up their family (and given how people react to divorce in this series..), but she also feels like a coward because she thinks her mom has a right to know. This is actually kind of well done, since it would be a rough situation for anyone to be put into. I can’t say I’d make the same decision as her, but I understand why she made it Which is more than I can say for 90% of her other decisions.

But enough of family drama. Finals are coming up and Hatsumi/Akane need help studying. Because they’re book dumb. Particularly, Hatsumi whose survived up until this point because Shinogu was around to help her study. Ryoki is all pissy because Hatsumi never finished telling him that she liked/loved him. He forces her to meet him at the library and they end up sharing one of those mini-cubeicles thingies. He won’t stop pinching her cheeks and calling her an idiot.Eventually he tells her that he can’t hold it any more and that he wants to “do it with” her. Still, Prince Charming I see.

She tells him to knock it off (!), because she can’t flunk or her mom will blow a gasket. He agrees to tutor her so she can move up at least 20 places in the rankings, in exchange for getting to spend one vacation day with her. Oh one day and one night.

So, later on Shinogu and Ryoki are having one of their ‘tutoring’ secessions. Shinogu tries to have a human conversation with Ryoki by talking about their dad and Asuza, but Ryoki basically tells him “I’m not interested in your family psycho drama, I just want to bang your sister.” (a little more polite granted). She manages to move up to 99 out of 165, about 35 places up. Ryoki decides ask her to fulfill the rest of their deal….

There is like half a volume left of volume six, but since it primarily deals with Christmas/New Year’s shanagangains, I’ll save it for then. There aren’t too many dramatic revelations at the end, and I’ll explain anything that needs to be explained in a volume 7 review. Till then.

The first page is mostly her winging about her lack of breasts, pretty stanadrd, but there is one little interesting tibiet: 

It is often stated in the fan letters I receive that “your female characters have such large chests, Shinjou-Sensei.” to which I must say YES!! I….I LOVE BIG BOOBS.

 Mind you I wrote it exactly like she did. She goes on to eplain that it’s becasuse she doesn’t have any. It all comes out as very Mary Sue wish fulfillment, but that’s common too.

The Second page is wher things really get interesting:

 Large Breasts with a cute face, flowing hair. Ah the lolicon is indeed a wonderful thing.

 Mayu? Yeah I don’t thik that word means what you think it means. Then again I’m no expert on the subject either.

 “The truth is long ago, I haaaaated drawing women. So, I naturally began to avoid drwaing them, and their faces began looking weird. [In between she decided to reasearch artists who drew good female characters]….My male characters were already tall and sadistic, so readily embraced the lolicon. However, I still do prefer drawing men, but it’s difficult to make them do what I want them to do, and they’re a bit more demanding…so drawing girls comparatively less time.

I think that pretty much explains everything. She doesn’t really like drawing female charcters, so she doesn’t put a lot of effort in to them (their faces still look werid Mayu), while she puts far too much effort into drawing male characters, which is why they always end up looking strange, especially when drawn next to the more generic female characters. I could have figured that out anyway, but it’s nice to have written confromation. I also wonder why she didn’t write BL, if she doesn’t like drawing women and wants to draw guys. The genre seems like it would suit her style well.

On the next page she just talks about her feelings about anime. Not much except these two parts:

 I also like anime where the villians are hot. Where they’re incredibly strong, maybe a little narcissistic and they smirk or have a little laugh like “heh heh heh” You know the type Friends of Justice just have absolutely no appeal to me.

And:

But I think the number of sexual anime series on TV is slowly decreasing. Personally, I like to see the characters get it on. There are fewer anime about unorthodox relationships too.

I have a feeling, she’d be a fan of Nakago from FY than. Actually, Mayu Shinjou and Yuu Watase are very similar in terms of their career paths, and how they express themselvesin Author Notes. But Watase is generally not that bad (though by god, does she have issues), and Shinjou is consistantly quite bad. I don’t know what it is.

You know when a volume of manga opens with the sentence, “Please forgive me god, I’m in love with my sister” it’s going to be bad.

So Shingou continues to hug Hatsumi and inner monolouge to god. Ryoki meanwhile wants to hear what they’re saying. Shinogu tells Hatsumi that she’s probably in love with Ryoki. She tells him he’s an idiot and asks him how he could know. He tells her that he knows because he’s in love with her.  This is of course the first thing Ryoki hears. Hatsumi just brushes it off as him loving her like a brother and because he’s feverish, dispute being slightly disturbed. Also, Shingou does a sad boys in the rain pose despite there being no actual rain, and Hatsumi tries to do a rendition of “I won’t say I’m in love”

The next day, Hatsumi tells her mom about Subaru being sick, but gets told that Subaru left bright and early in the morning in perfect health. Hatsumi being your usual flavour of dense heroine, doesn’t really question this, other than kind of going “huh?”. Her mom also gives her two movie tickets. Hmmm…smelling a cliche shojo date moment coming on.

Meanwhile Ryoki being siblingless is doing independent reasearch on brother-sister relationships. Of course, he goes to Subaru who has the unfortunate role of being the one who has to deal with everyone’s crap. Ryoki determines that something very weird in going on, freaking out his test subject in the process.

At school, Hatsumi asks her rarely seen female friends (OMG! people who aren’t total bitches/doormats) to go the movies, but they can’t. Azula shows up and mentions that she should go with Ryoki. He proceeds to act like a total jerkass, because of his usual mommy/tragic issues. On the way home, Hatsumi runs into Ryoki. He finds out about the movie tickets, gets pissed when he finds out that she’s thinking of asking Shingou along, and Hatsumi ends up asking him to come with. Ryoki acts like it’s a chore, but is all smily when he gets home. Possibly because he also gets to piss off his mother this way by going out with Hatsumi instead of taking a practise exam.

Hatsumi wakes up in the middle of the night and hears Shingou fighting with their mom. He’s planning to move out that night. Hatsumi tries to stop him, but he tells her he can’t stay because he needs to keep his promise to god.

The next day, Hatsumi being shocked by Shinogu sudden departure, is late to meet Ryoki. Plus, as she leaves Azusa drops that bomb that she and Shinogu aren’t blood related. Because he seems to just enjoy stirring shit up at this point in the story. Ryoki calls Akane to bitch and she contacts Hatsumi. Yay for cell phone technology anyways. Hatsumi tries to tell Ryoki  about her problems, but he tells her he doesn’t give a fig and leaves her standing on the corner. What sensitive boyfriend material.

Hatsumi goes home and Akane meets her at the door, fussing about Ryoki dumping her or whatever other nonsense. Hatumi decides to go meet Shinogu and ask him about why he left, and if he’s really adopted. She also runs into Subaru on her way to the station who tells her that Ryoki was supposed to have a practise exam. She feels bad for whatever reason.

Of course, who should be on the same train, but Ryoki. He tells her family has too many problems, but still agrees to go with her to visit Shinogu She tells him that she can’t tell if he’s being mean or nice sometimes (he’s just being possessive) and that her heart keeps throading around him. He takes this as a confession and hugs her, asking her once again to be his girlfriend. Shinogu shows up before she can give him an answer however.

They go over to his place and Ryoki is like “cut the crap. Are you her brother or not?” and Hatsumi is like “no I don’t care! He’ll always be my brother no matter what.” and than they talk about Hatsumi’s father supposedly having an affair with Azusa mother. Than they leave and Shingou emos about how Ryoki and Hatsumi might be a couple.

Ryoki (who dragged Hatsumi out of Shingou’s apartment because he didn’t want her interacting with either him or his room mate), is all pissy again and Hatsumi wondered why she followed him despite always being annoyed by him. She thinks that she have stayed with Shingou. This is exactly the problem with Hatsumi. She bitches about people like Ryoki or Akane pushing her around, but she does exactly nothing about it. So after an awkward walk home, Hatsumi goes to start making dinner, but she can’t get his proposal out of her mind. She starts to run toward his apartment.

Meanwhile, Azusa and Shingou have a little chat. Shingou tells him to kindly stop harassing Hatsumi, and just wait until their dad comes home. Azusa is like “lol you like her that much? Just steal her from pissy boy.”

Meanwhile, pissy boy is extra pissy and tells Hatsumi that he no longers wants her as his girlfriend and pouts. Hatsumi finds this charming and kisses him on the head. He’s like “Okay, you can be my-girlfriend-in-training, but only if you think about me 80% of the time” and yes he seriously says pretty much that. Dick.

They make out, as Ryoki moves onto the tounge pretty dang fast. Than, Asshi, Akane and Subaru burst in (thankfully) spoiling the mood. He tells them to crash in his room and grabs Hatsumi by the arm dragging her out of the apartment complex to be alone/get food for the gate crashers.

Asahi sneaks out and sees Shinogu and Azusa talking. Asuza manages to get Shinogu to admit that he wants to have sex with his non-blood related sister, whose diapers he probably changed. He catches her and she promises not to tell anyone, even though all her romantic hopes were dashed (she had a crush on him before).

Meanwhile, at Ryoki’s place, Akane gets drunk and decides it’s a good time to confront Subaru about his not trying to have sex with her every moment. She gets him to feel her breasts. Moving right long.

Ryoki thinks that because Hatsumi his kind of girlfriend it’s a good time to have sex and wants to buy protection. Hatsumi tries to convince him not to and they’re interupted by the neighborhood ladies. Afterwards, he tries to force her to say that she loves him, but her mom interrupts. Her mom tells her not to date Ryoki because she doesn’t want to be shunned by his bitchmom again. Hatsumi emos.

According to the manga this is what Prince Charles looks like....

Don’t ask, I’m as shocked as you are (or more depending). I saw it last night and I’m still baffled.

I’m not actually going to review it, though it is tempting given the relative ridculousness, because making fun of manga or comics about real people, particularly people who died tragically or whatever.

I can sort of see how it might have been made. It came out in the year 2000, when there was still close enough to the frenzy that went on after 1997 (I can still remember the Barbie dolls). I didn’t know the frenzy reached as far as Japan, but live and learn I guess. Also, I think the writer/artist was trying to evocate a kind of “Rose of Versailles” feeling, with the art and the trying to fit real life people into a stereotypical shojo plotline (however little sense it might make). This manga however lacks, a reverse trap who challenges people to duels, so it kind of lacks the sparkle of ROV. There is also quite a lot of bias, but that’s to be expected for a publication like this.

I recommend checking it out. It`s one of those things that needs to be seen to be believed. In particular, the line “I love kids too! What a coincidence!” is used as a pick-up line. Also, Queen Elizabeth II faceplants a lot, which was probably her real life reaction to a lot of what ends up happening.

I dislike how every cover for this series shows a close up of Akihiko face. I really wish that the artist varied the pose a little at least, if not the person featured.

The volume opens with Sachi peeking at Akihiko when he’s stripping his clothing off to turn into Akira. -__- Doesn’t see she it enough at home? Also, creepy. He yells at her to get out, and she goes and meets the new bartender Tomoya, who looks exactly like what Kukai would look like if he was drawn by people less competent than Peach Pit. The similarities end at looks however, as Tomoya is yet another Akira/Akihiko fan, who is rude to Sachi for the sake of being rude.

His obsession for “Boss” (as he calls Akihiko. How many names is this guy going to have by the end of the series?), is on level with Sachiko’s own as he transfer to their school for the sole purpose of being closer to Akihiko. He also doesn’t recognize Akira/Akihiko with his glasses on, since he’s an idiot just like everyone else in this series. I did get a small moment of geek glee when he refered to Akihiko as “that guy with the glasses” though.

Toymoya and Sachi get in a fight later on when, he calls her unrefined and says that he wants to be Akihiko’s boyfriend wingman, not wanting him to be with a “pathetic excuse for a girl” like Sachi. This cumulates with them both joining the student council as class reps to be closer to Akihiko. Of course, they end up fighting over him and get kicked out of the meeting.

Phase 2 of Sachi war for attention involves making him an awesome lunch. However, Tomoya is one step ahead and makes an even more awesome lunch to share with Akihiko. Lastly, she tries to organize the data from the student questionnaires, using the laptop she “borrowed” from the student council. Of course she breaks it due to fangirling. The student council guys get mad at her because it was the only place the data was stored Wait what? Okay, Sachi is a total idiot and should ahve to pay for the computer, but these guys are even bigger morons. Saving all your data to only one place is incredibility  irresponsible, especially if it’s for something as important as this seems to be to them.

Akihiko takes responsiblity and is (rightfully in this case) annoyed with both Sachi and Tomoya. Tomoya acts like an ass and than sees Sachi cry and seems to change his mind or something. She tries to gather all the information again, with mixed success. Tomoya gets his friend to email the questionnaire to everyone and get them to resubmit it, first seeming to do it to help Sachi out, but is rather doing to get in good with Akihiko. Points for creativity here I guess. Most of the time, guys like this turn out to be a good guy at this point.

However, in bragging to Akihiko, Tomoya shoots himself in the foot , when he tells Akihiko that Sachi tried to fill the surveys out by hand. Akihiko seems touched by this and tells Tomoya that he may have won the war, but he hasn’t won the battle yet. Than, Akihiko goes and finds Sachi being emo in a tree, and makes her feel better I guess. Sachi forgives Tomoya saying that even though he’s a tool at least he helped fix her mistake. He blushes. Okay so now we have a possible love triangle developing.

So apparently, Tomoya’s superrich and he invites Akihiko to stay at his summer home so they can have bartending training. Sachi tags along because “there’s something weird about two guys staying in a luxurious vacation home all alone together!” She and Tomoya ge tin a fight outside his house while Akihiko pretends that he doesn’t know them.

Tomoya’s relative (cousin possibly) Lilly, looks down at them and basically calls him a noisy idiot. Than she falls off the building and is caught by Akihiko. She declares him to be her prince, and Sachi feels jealous. Of a five year old? Okay.

Lilly is a spoiled brat because her parents died or something. Sachi feels sorry for her for a bit, but then  the kid calls her short and stumpy and all pity leaves her. Lilly manages to get Akihiko to read her stories, ride on a white horse, etc. Sachi tries to ignore her when Lilly makes comments about how Sachi and Tomoya would make a great couple. This annoys Lilly who flicks a been at Sachi then says that Sachi was picking on her, once she tries to retaliate. Akihiko calls her on this BS and says he doesn’t like liars going off to comfort Sachi. He seems nicer to her in this volume despite how crazy she’s been. I wonder what that says about him.

Lilly fake apologizes to both Akihiko and Sachi, setting up a trap for Akihiko to go find a precious thing, so that he’ll end being trapped in some building. Sachi slaps her and goes to find him. Apparently her precious thing actually was there. It was her last picture together with her parents. She cries and everyone’s happy, until Sschi falls in to a trap that Tomoya and Lilly dug a few years ago.

The last chapter in the volume centres around Sachi taking care of Akihiko when he’s sick/cursed. Although initially thinking she caused him to get sick, Tomoya and LIlly leave him in her care. Of course, like with everything Sachi screws up a bunch at first, finally going out in the rain to get medicine. He takes and allows her to take off his glasses for him. In classic sitcom fashion, Sachi gets a cold too after Akihiko, who vows to take as good care of her as she did of him, menacingly. *cue laugh track*

Akihiko wasn’t as annoying this time, but Sachi seems to have taken a few crazy pills. I really dislike Lilly and Tomoya too, particularly Lilly, who embodies a character type I really hat, i.e. bratty kid who likes someone and is total bitch to every who comes near them. Also, why does everyone keep falling for Akihiko? Admittedly, he’s not as much of a tool as some of the guys in series that I’ve covered, but he really doesn’t have a lot going for him either.

ANyways, since Del Ray went under this is probably the last volume for a while, because I don’t believe that anyone’s scanating it either. Maybe Kodansha US will continue the US/CDN release depending on how well the first three volumes sold, though I don’t imagine the sales were great. Then again there is only one volume left in the series so maybe. *shrugs*
